About Me

Background and Training

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Olaf College in biology and psychology and a Masters of Science in genetic counseling from John Hopkins School of Public Health/National Institutes of Health. I had the privilege of providing genetic counseling for 10 years in both a prenatal and pediatric metabolism clinic.

As my interests expanded into how individuals and families cope and adapt to health issues, I pursued my doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of Minnesota.  This training expanded my interests to include working with mental health concerns that naturally arise as individuals are in times of transitions. I have provided therapy services in a variety of settings - community mental health, college counseling centers, and a group practice.

In addition to private practice, I am on faculty in the genetic counseling training program at the University of Minnesota and provide contract work through LeaderWise. I am dual-licensed in Minnesota as a psychologist (LP 6234)  and genetic counselor (#1169).

Approach to Therapy

I am a strength-based psychologist, who is  person-centered in my counseling.  What this means for you is that I  have a strong belief in your ability to grow and change in the context  of an open, empathic, and non-judgmental relationship. With this, our  work together will be supportive, yet challenging, so you reach your  desired goal(s) and fullest potential.

Who I work with

When looking for therapy, you may wonder if you are a good match for working with me. While this is not an exhaustive list, here are some types of individuals I work well with:

  • Individuals and families living with or at risk for a genetic condition
  • Individuals experiencing distress in one or more areas of life
  • Parents of children/young adults with a chronic health issue or genetic condition
  • College and graduate students with academic concerns
